Laser therapy involves focusing light on the retina. Traditional “hot” laser causes a burn mark on the retina. This can be useful in treating retinal tears and certain forms of diabetic retinopathy, for example. This procedure is performed in the office, and the procedure itself does not have any impact on your ability or permission to return to usual activity immediately. (Note: some underlying conditions may require some restrictions.)
For other conditions, like central serous retinopathy and some cases of diabetic macular edema, we can use a special extra-gentle laser, called micropulse focal laser therapy. This newer technology allows stimulation of the retinal cells without causing any burns or scars at all! It is completely painless and also will not restrict any activities immediately after the procedure.
Dr. Ezon has invested in the latest and greatest technology. Micropulse laser therapy, in additional to traditional laser, is available at both of our offices. Same-day treatment is possible when clinically indicated.
